Danish companies’ focus on ESG, corporate social responsibility and sustainability has never been greater. At the same time, many new rules in the area make it complex to navigate. That is why we have now formalised our ESG advice.
ESG - Environmental, Social and Governance
ESG has – together with the strong focus on compliance – become the talk of the town in the last few years. Our specialists have many years’ experience in advising on matters related to both E (Environmental), S (Social) and G (Governance), but in light of the increased awareness we have now established a cross-company team of lawyers with relevant skills. In this way, we ensure both a holistic approach and the necessary breadth and expertise, so that you as a client receive specialist advice on all legal aspects of a given ESG issue.
"For many years we have advised on everything from energy agreements, sustainable procurement and IT contracts to staff policies and compliance due diligence, all of which fall within the ESG area. In light of the increased focus on ESG in the public debate and at business level, we have now set up a dedicated ESG team of specialists who cover the relevant practice areas within the three pillars," says partner Maria Holst Levin.
One of the specialists in the team is senior attorney Laura Nelson Marusic. Laura has worked in the UN system for a number of years, specialising in sustainability, corporate social responsibility and human rights. At Kromann Reumert, she also advises on business ethics, including anti-corruption and sanctions, which are important aspects of the “Governance” pillar of ESG. She explains:
"During my time with the UN, I gained extensive knowledge of the sustainability agenda, its development and players, which provided a good basis for understanding the complex network of both regulatory and stakeholder requirements that companies around the world are facing these years. The political focus on regulation in the area provides a good opportunity for us to accumulate our skills in a team of specialists with different insights and competences, so that we and our clients can target our ESG efforts even more for the benefit of everyone," says Laura, who is also one of Kromann Reumert's two internal knowledge ambassadors in the ESG area.
