Eibis survey: Danish firms constitute the highest share of top performing firms in the EU

The European Investment Bank has published its annual survey on investment and investment finance (EIBIS), according to which 42 % of Danish firms are among the 20 % most productive firms in the EU.

The EIBIS survey is based on information about investment activities in 12,300 firms in the EU, and Denmark excels on both firm performance and investment activities; results that reflect a post-crisis recovery of the Danish – and European – economy. A specific indicator of a strengthened economy is found among the survey's key results, which report that 9 out of 10 firms made investments last year. Additionally, Denmark has the highest share of foreign investments in the EU.

Innovation-led future

In terms of investments, the survey reports a positive outlook as firms expect to increase their investments, and the positive outlook appears to be innovation-led. According to the survey, most of the Danish firms plan to prioritise investments in developing new products and services.

The continuous expansion of investment activities excites partner at Kromann Reumert, Anders Lavesen:

"The survey underlines what we at Kromann Reumert already experience in our daily work: The tendency for Danish firms to invest is growing. Apart from a significant rise in M&A activities, we see a number of companies investing in an upgrade of their IT platforms and further digitalizing to ensure compliance with the new personal data regime. The complexity of digitization and the impact on the business are often given too little attention on the contract side – in our opinion it is essential to focus on risk management of such investments," he says.
